CFS is the sole owner of the information collected on our websites, and will not sell, trade, share, or rent this information to third parties.

Our Commitment to Our Donors

We will not sell, rent, share or trade our donors' names or personal information with any other entity, nor send mailings to our donors on behalf of other organizations, with the exception of our sister organization Center for Food Safety Action Fund.

This policy applies to all information received by Center for Food Safety, both online and offline, on any Platform ("Platform", includes the CFS website and mobile applications), as well as any electronic, written, or oral communications.

To the extent any donations are processed through a third-party service provider, our donors’ information will only be used for purposes necessary to process the donation.

Financial Transactions

If you choose to make an online donation to CFS, you will have to provide your credit card billing information. The credit card information that you provide at the time of donation is used only to process your donation and will not be stored or used by us for any other purposes. We will store other information about the details of your transaction for our records.

How do I know my credit card information is secure?

CFS works with Bonterra Digital (formerly EveryAction), ActBlue, and other third-party giving sites to process our donations. We ensure that all our partners use secure server software (SSL) that is the industry standard for secure commerce transactions. It encrypts all of your personal information, including credit card number, name and address, so that it cannot be read as the information travels over the Internet. CFS does not store your credit card information once your transaction has been processed.

For more information on EveryAction, please visit this link.
For more information on ActBlue or ActBlue Express privacy policy, please visit the Act Blue website

Does CFS rent, share, sell or trade my email or mailing address?

CFS will not give, trade, rent, sell, or share donor or member email or mailing addresses or information about your online activities with other organizations other than our sister organization, Center for Food Safety Action Fund, except as specifically required to carry out the given action you requested. For example, if you send a message through our systems to your U.S. Senators, your message will be sent to them from your email address.

Information that CFS Collects

CFS collects information to help us better meet your needs and to improve our programs. Our reasons for collecting personal information include:

- Internal record keeping
- To carry out activities where personal information is required, such as advocacy actions
- To provide you with content that is relevant to you; for example, information about legislation in your state or local region

We only collect personal information from our donors and visitors when it is supplied to us voluntarily. Certain activities on our website (described in further detail below) may require you to provide information such as your name, email address, mailing address, phone number, or may ask you to submit written comments. If you do not wish to share the required information with CFS, do not participate in these activities.

The following are examples of how we may use your personal information when you engage in common activities on our website:

1. When you take an advocacy action such as sending a message to your elected representatives, government officials or other targets of CFS advocacy, we will keep a record of the information you submit, and will send your message to these recipients, along with the contact information you provide, such as your name, address, and email address. CFS is not responsible for what these recipients may do with your information. This information is not shared with or sold to, other organizations for commercial purposes. However, your statement to decision makers, along with personal information you voluntarily provide, will be forwarded by e-mail to those addresses listed.

Please note: Comments submitted to government agencies, including the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), are considered to be public information. Personal contact information you provide will be placed in a public docket and may also be placed on the agency’s website and made available through the Internet in accordance with the provisions of the Electronic Freedom of Information Act. All of the information supplied in the correspondence, including addresses, phone numbers, signatures, and other identifiers, will be placed in the docket. CFS does NOT include your email address when we submit your comments to agency dockets on your behalf.

Submissions to a docket are part of the administrative record that government agencies use to make a decision. All submissions are public and may be viewed in the Dockets Management Branch public reading room. If you have any questions about the FDA’s handling of public comments, please direct them to the Docket’s Management Branch by calling 301-827-6860. The EPA’s Docket Center can be contacted at 202-566-1744.

2. When you sign up to join our main email list or provide us with your email address, we will have a record of your email address and any other information you choose to provide. We will send you emails about urgent food safety action alerts, fundraising campaigns, and other CFS activities. You can opt out of these emails at any time through the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of every email you receive from us. CFS does not share, rent, or sell our members' or donors' information to anyone other than our sister organization, Center for Food Safety Action Fund.

3. When you make an online donation to CFS, your information will be added to our donor list and database, and you may be contacted about other CFS activities, news, action alerts, and/or fundraising campaigns. CFS does not share, rent, or sell our donors' information to anyone other than Center for Food Safety Action Fund.
